Sheriff: Tempe shootings suspect killed himself Associated Press |
Pinal County authorities say a man sought in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend and the wounding of a neighbor in Tempe fatally shot himself after a chase from the Tucson area.
Sheriff Paul Babeu says 33-year-old John Brazel shot himself in the head early Friday morning as deputies confronted him at a utility site near Coolidge.
According to Babeu, the chase began when Marana police spotted a pickup stolen by Brazel.
Babeu says officers lost Brazel when he drove at speeds over 110 mph.
Brazel then tried hiding his vehicle at the utility site, but security guards spotted it and called authorities.
The double shooting occurred Tuesday at an apartment complex. The neighbor who was injured saw a man and a woman arguing and tried to intervene.
