The dusty stuff of school blackboards gets a vivid, colorful shake up at the Tempe Marketplace Chalk Art Festival, where six artists — including Victor Navarro, one of the youngest artists to be invited to exhibit his work at the Louvre — will transform the sidewalks into large-scale works of art. There’s also a community mural, where chalk will be provided and art instructors will help you add your personal touch to the project. Murals will be on view through April 30.

DETAILS >> 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 12. The District at Tempe Marketplace, 2000 E. Rio Salado Parkway. Free admission. (480) 966-9338 or TempeMarketplace.com/chalk.
