PHOENIX — A memorial service for fallen Mesa firefighter Trevor Madrid, who died Nov. 14 after battling a rare form of cancer, will take place Tuesday.

The memorial service will be held at the Mission Church at 4450 E. Elliot Road in Gilbert beginning at 11 a.m.

The service will honor Madrid’s service, sacrifice, his family and all who loved him, according to a press release.

A procession featuring fire department apparatus and personnel from various parts of Arizona will begin at 9 a.m. and travel 13 miles to the church, beginning on Centennial Way to First Street, then on Mesa Drive to Broadway Road and from Lindsey Road to Elliot Road.

Madrid, a retired captain of the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, died at the age of 36 while being surrounded by family and friends, the agency said.

He battled synovial sarcoma for more than two years, a disease that is diagnosed in only 1-2 people per million in the U.S. each year, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Madrid spent 13 years with Mesa Fire and Medical.
