PHOENIX — The westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway was closed at Loop 101 Pima Freeway in the East Valley on Thursday morning due to a wrong-way collision accident.

The wrong-way driver, who has yet to be identified, struck a DPS unit and another vehicle which caused no injuries, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email.

It then continued to drive and struck another vehicle head-on which led to serious injuries, authorities said.

All drivers have been exiting at Loop 101.

The freeway closed around 11:20 a.m. with no estimated time for reopening.
