PHOENIX — A Glendale police officer was injured during an incident with a male Tuesday night while responding to a house fire, authorities said.

Authorities responded to a call of a fire around 5:30 p.m. at a home near Redfield Road and 60th Street.

A person was outside with fire personnel when he tried to run back into the home and the officer attempted to stop him, the Glendale Police Department said in a press release.

The male then pulled out a knife and started stabbing himself, authorities said, with the officer being injured while trying to get the knife from the male.

The officer was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the male was also transported with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
