PHOENIX — Firecreek Coffee Company has made its way down to the Valley from northern Arizona, opening its first shop in Phoenix on Monday.

The location at 4602 Thomas Road is the fourth coffee shop for the company, the others are located in Flagstaff, Cottonwood and Sedona.

"We can't wait to introduce our unique culture to the Arcadia neighborhood and look forward to becoming a part of the community for years to come,” Mike Funk, founder of Firecreek Coffee Company, said in a press release on Monday.

The new Valley location is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will continue the company’s small-batch coffee offering that is available at the specialty bars in northern Arizona, but there’s a lot more on the menu than just coffee.

Food options include house granola, chia parfait, a daily quiche such as veggie or meat as well as a salad with baby greens, tomato, avocado, toasted walnuts and Grana Padano cheese.

Panini selections are also available with options such as truffled goat cheese with roasted red peppers, tomato, basil and kalamata olives in addition to egg, cheddar and bacon with tomato and onion jam.

Firecreek Coffee Company first opened its Flagstaff location in 2008 and also supplies AJ's Fine Foods and Whole Foods with specialty coffee that is currently available to purchase.

While the company got its start in northern Arizona, Funk previously had a presence in the Valley after moving to the state from Seattle.

He opened Café Tech at 5th Street and McDowell Road in the mid-1990s, which at the time supplied the specialty coffee industry with equipment and supplies and training while also manufacturing carts and designing café interiors, according to the release.

"It's extremely rewarding to be back in the Phoenix area and to be continuing the Firecreek Coffee legacy here in the Valley," Funk said.

He plans to develop an expansive roasting facility at 16th Street and McDowell Road that will also serve as an event and concert venue.

Extended hours for the coffee shop and additional offerings, including craft cocktails, will be announced in the coming months, according to the release.
