PHOENIX — Pop culture enthusiasts will have to wait even longer to celebrate their favorite character at Phoenix Fan Fusion as a convention scheduled for January has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Event organizers in a Facebook post on Tuesday said the decision to cancel the event scheduled to take place at the Phoenix Convention Center Jan. 14-16 was due to uncertainty over the surge of the delta variant.

“We've been looking forward to seeing you all at our next convention, unfortunately, we're going to have to wait just a bit longer,” the post read.

“We feel this is the best option, as the safety and well-being of our attendees and participants is of utmost concern to us.”

The next convention is scheduled to take place May 27-29 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

The last Phoenix Fan Fusion took place in May of 2019 as multiple conventions have been canceled since due to the ongoing pandemic.

Passes and exhibitor space already purchased for the 2020, 2021, or January 2022 events will be transferred to the new dates, according to the post.

“Know that we appreciate your ongoing support and commitment to Phoenix Fan Fusion and cannot express enough our gratitude for your patience and understanding during these most trying of times,” the post read.

“We'll be counting the days till we can celebrate our fandoms together again!”
